Last year we had the opportunity of co-host along with Legislator Kevan Abrahams and Harvest For The World our first “ComeInUnity Family Fun Day.” With the help of Judge Tricia Ferrell we were able to connect with Legislator Abrahams’ office to bring this event to life. At the time we were just a small group of individuals trying to bring back a sense of community to a neighborhood that was once vibrant with children playing in the streets, neighbors conversing with neighbors, cookouts and sporting events.
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in June 2014. With a short planning phase and very little resources, we were able to provide the residents of Uniondale, NY, past and present, something that they needed. We had vendors, music, food, games, giveaways and town & county info on hand. It was a day where folks could come out, enjoy good music, eat and play and also be informed. There was a bounce house, face painting which was a big hit. There were games for the children and a bunch of giveaways from our local businesses. We had local acts, which did an amazing job entertaining the crowd.
An unbelievable amount of work was put into planning and executing this event. Every ounce of energy put forth was well worth it in the end, just look at those kids’ faces!
